Wallet - Bitcoin Wiki Wallet - Bitcoin Wiki
December 26, 2018 7:49 PM Discuss A Bitcoin wallet is a collection of private keys but may also refer to client software used to manage those keys and to make transactions on the Bitcoin network. This page covers various wallet formats in use. The original Bitcoin client stores private key information in a file named wallet.dat following the so called "bitkeys" format. The wallet.dat file is located in the Bitcoin data directory and may be encrypted with a password. It is intended that a wallet file be used on only one installation of Bitcoin at a time. Attempting to clone a wallet file for use on multiple computers will result in "weird behavior"[1].

How to import private keys - Bitcoin Wiki How to import private keys - Bitcoin Wiki
December 26, 2018 7:36 PM Discuss Before reading this page, users should note that messing with ECDSA private keys is very dangerous and can result in losing bitcoins, even long after the import. It is recommended that outside of self-generated vanity addresses, users should never import (or export) private keys.[1][2] As of August 2012, possibly the easiest way to import a private key is using Blockchain.info's My Wallet service. When successully imported through the "Import/Export" screen, the bitcoins assigned to a private key can be immediately sent to any Bitcoin address. It is extremely risky and not recommended to use Blockchain.info or any online third-party service to import private keys, because they can steal your BitCoins if they have the keys. It's best to import them using bitcoind as described below.

Mini private key format - Bitcoin Wiki Mini private key format - Bitcoin Wiki
December 26, 2018 7:30 PM Discuss This page contains sample addresses and/or private keys. Do not send bitcoins to or import any sample keys; you will lose your money. The mini private key format is a method of encoding a Bitcoin private key in as few as 30 characters for the purpose of being embedded in a small space. A private key encoded in this format is called a minikey. This private key format was designed for and first used in Casascius physical bitcoins, and is also favorable for use in QR codes. The fewer characters encoded in a QR code, the lower dot density can be used, as well as more dots allocated to error correction in the same space, significantly improving readability and resistance to damage. The mini private key format offers its own built-in check code as a small margin of protection against typos.
