Dr. Emin Gün Sirer is a computer scientist based in Ithaca, New York. While a professor at Cornell University, he also currently leads the AVAX Avalanche cryptocurrency development team at Ava Labs.
A graduate of Robert College, he later obtained a BSE in Computer Science from Princeton University. He then went on to work at AT&T and Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC).
He currently dedicates his time to the research and development of decentralized consensus protocols, most notably AVAX, a next generation cryptocurrency which employs Avalanche – a novel consensus mechanism not currently used by any other digital asset.
Dr. Sirer presents Avalanche at the 2020 Campus Party. During the COVID-19 pandemic the Campus Party was held virtually, via videoconference.
In early 2020, the Avalanche project went public and began community building. In July of the same year, the project raised U$ 42 million in a successful public sale that was scheduled to last 15 days but ran out of AVAX tokens in a little over 4 hours.
