The Mystery of "Ezekiel Osborne," the Monero Cofounder Who Wasn't
Just over a week ago, Forbes Middle East published a profile of Ezekiel Osborne, described in the piece as a ?crypto millionaire,? principal in a Middle East-focused cryptocurrency services group, and, most impressively, one of the seven co-creators of the privacy-focused cryptocurrency Monero. Much of this now appears to have been fiction. Known Monero developers have denied any knowledge of Osborne, while onlookers quickly noticed his resemblance to a man previously known as Zeke Echelon and also as Ezekiel de Jong. Under the name Zeke Echelon, this person has advertised himself as the ?Worlds best pumper? (sic), a reference to running so-called pump and dump groups that engaged in collective market manipulation. This posting was found by us on October 31, 2018 8:57 AM. ZRX & ESTC: A Tale of Exchange Listing Pops, the State of Crypto Reporting (It Sucks) and How You Can Make Money Being Contrarian, and How Monero (XMR) Sliced Up Transaction Fees With Bulletproofs
In this podcast, hosts Vikram Ramakrishnan and Faizaan Shamsi, partners at the software consultancy QuantLayer, talk to investors and builders of the cryptocurrency arena. We discuss how industry participants think about crypto assets, how they uncover fraud in the market, and which technologies will turn the budding, nascent crypto space into the revolutionary powerhouse early market participants had hoped for. We do a victory lap for alerting our users to the ZRX add to Coinbase before everyone else. We then get into a discussion of how exchange additions are similar to public market IPO first day trading pops, like what we saw in Elastic Search recently. We then talk about the state of crypto reporting, and how it has created a mix of pay-to-play bad actors, mainstream media outlets offering 10 year old FUD over and over, and well-meaning actors who create consensus views that smart, contrarian thinkers can profit on by taking the other side. We then do a deep dive on Monero and its recent success in transaction fee reduction from their implementation of bulletproofs. This publication was obtained by us on October 30, 2018 7:32 PM. ShapeShift Crypto Exchange Is No Longer Annonymous Users Are Turning To MorphToken As A Viable Alternative To Get Monero (XMR) | Oracle Times
Back in September, the founder and CEO of ShapeShift Erik Voorhees announced that the exchange is launching a membership program and anonymous trading will no longer be available. ?To some who have followed our history, it may seem a curious development; ShapeShift is known as ?the exchange without accounts,? a model we pioneered in order to reduce friction and protect customers. Membership is account-based, so why are we departing from that lineage?? he was writing on September 4th in the official announcement. Voorhees continued by offering the reasons for this decision which included the following: This information was first found by us on October 30, 2018 1:14 PM. ZCash sapling upgrade has been successfully activated, battle s with Monero s Bulletproofs
ZCash?s protocol upgrade, known as Sapling, has been successfully activated. ZCash, on their official website for Sapling, announced, ?Activated at block 419200, mined at October 29, 2018 02:15 UTC+00:00?. Sapling protocol improves upon the ?Shielded transaction? features of ZCash. Private transactions are not mandatory on Zcash, meaning the sender has a choice to use private or public transactions. Private transactions are slow, as they are hidden cryptographically via algorithm known as ?zk-SNARKS?. Forming ?zk-SNARKs? is slow and computationally expensive. https://twitter.com/mineZcash/status/1056732706988609542 This entry was first seen by us on October 29, 2018 10:40 PM. Trezor Adds Support For Monero (XMR) - Monero News
Why Dash, Monero, and Zcash failed to replace the physical banks.
The financial industry has come a long way from the appearance of the first currency via chinese paper banknotes from the 9th century to the modern, extremely complex economic system that is difficult to maintain, even for powerful governments. We have come from the barter system to the ultra technological platforms like the Nasdaq with its 10,000 transactions that take place per second. In developed countries, you will not find it difficult to pay for purchases by credit card, take out a loan online, or send money to a friend using a mobile application. Quickly getting used to the good, we rarely think about how amazing these achievements of fintech industry actually are, which are erasing the physical boundaries and distances between people. At the same time, on a global scale, these benefits are not available to a large portion of the global population. For example, only 2% of adults worldwide have a mobile bank account. Post Fork Monero Decoy is harming privacy
BTC.com engineer and concerned Monero user ?Lacksfish? has outlined a troubling bias towards the use of coinbase (block reward) transactions as decoys (also known as mixins) occuring on the post-fork Monero chain, with potentially troublesome privacy implications. The Github issue outlined here points towards a concerning number of recent transactions in which there is a disproportionate number of block reward transactions utilised as decoys in the ring signature. A fix has now merged and a new version of the Monero CLI has now been released, but a number of other wallets are yet to upgrade. The changes to the decoy selection algorithm have been present in the Monero codebase for several months, but its impact appears to have been exacerbated by the recent transaction size improvements related to this month?s hard-fork which introduced the use of highly efficient bulletproofs. These more compact zero-knowledge proofs created a notable reduction in average transaction fees overnight which many users are pleased with, but the transaction size decrease has also resulted in a greater transaction capacity per block, and as a consequence there appears to have been an increase in the number of empty blocks being mined. Monero Withdrawal Fees On Exchanges Fell Thanks To Beryllium Bullet
FFS: Zero to Monero 2nd Edition now 'Funding'
Zero to Monero went live on July 4, 2018, 3 months ago. It will soon be obsolete, with bulletproofs replacing Borromean ring signatures, and various minor tweaks to the code base. Based on feedback here, and via email, it seems at least a few people would like a second edition. Please note Zero to Monero is by far the most in-depth resource on Monero currently existing (aside from this academic treatment), and is accessible and useful to laymen, developers, researchers, etc. Proposed changes for second edition: 1) Add multisig chapter (a draft is ready and needs rewriting; Surae Noether published his multisig paper, so now I can add the subject to ZtM). 2) Edit blockchain chapter (too bland, longwinded, etc). 3) Update with bulletproof chapter (includes researching bulletproofs) and deprecate borromean ring sigs. Peruse ~500-600 pull requests on Monero git repository for all changes made since my last researches. 4) various minor edits/improvements This article was first seen by us on October 28, 2018 9:12 AM. ZCash (ZEC) Meets Monero (XMR) Bulletproofs With Sapling Protocol
As reported by Ethereum World News in the past weeks, the Monero (XMR) bulletproof protocol has quickly been hailed as a resounding success, with transaction fees plummeting by upwards of 97% and transactional data sizes seeing an 80% haircut. Just recently, in a testament to the success of Monero?s blockchain upgrade, Binance and Bittrex, two of the foremost crypto platforms, dropped Monero withdrawal fees to 0.0001 XMR (~$0.01) to better accommodate consumers. While Monero transaction fees aren?t nearing that of its primary competitor just yet (~$0.0002), the ZCash Company, a for-profit organization behind the blockchain project that shares its name, has sought to better its privacy features through the so-called ?Sapling Protocol.? Monero Fees Drop to 0.0001 XMR on Binance and Bittrex After Hard Fork
The recent update of the Monero blockchain seems destined to be one of the most important for the community. Not only does Beryllium Bullet -the name given to the hard fork- improve the levels of anonymity and security but it is also a powerful tool in the future adoption of XMR by optimizing its mining algorithm to bring costs down to historic lows. The new Beryllium Bullet has a ?bulletproof? feature that lowers the size of a transaction from 18kb to 3.5kb. With this, a 96% reduction in fees is achieved, making the cryptocurrency not only attractive for those who seek confidentiality but also for those who prefer higher profitability and lower costs. [GOOD NEWS] Binance, Bittrex Lowers Monero(XMR) Withdrawal Transaction Fees
Major cryptocurrency exchanges reduce the Monero Privacy Coin (XMR) withdrawal rates, as transaction fees are now much lower now as XMR has added Bulletproofs to its network. The bullet-proofs, set up last week, reduce transaction costs on the Monero network. Withdrawal transaction charges have always been a problem for all members of the cryptocurrency community. This was particularly felt with Monero because its privacy features add to transaction, users sometimes have to pay high fees to take their cryptocurrency out of the exchanges platform. No more than yesterday, Binance and Bittrex announced that they would reduce the XMR withdrawal fee to 0.0001 XMR. Considering that the XMR is currently trading at $ 107, the 0.0001 XMR means a withdrawal fee of only $ 0.01. This represents a huge discount for merchants who had already paid XMR 0.04 to withdraw from Binance. This piece was discovered by us on October 27, 2018 9:47 AM. On October 22nd. Monero?s bulletproof upgrade went live. The new upgrade instantly reduced the transaction fee by 96%. Should Coinbase consider the listing of Monero (XMR) Crypto Recorder
The prestige and value gained from a Coinbase cryptocurrency exchange has seen most of the cryptocurrencies push for a listing on the exchange. Since Ethereum Classic (ETC) listing, one that caused a 30% increase in the price of ETC, Coinbase has continued to offer signals of listing a few more cryptocurrencies on the exchange as they target the global reach. Of the coins set to gain a listing, ZCash (ZEC) is the only privacy coin currency in consideration, begging the question of why XMR was not placed on the list. Monero (XMR) currently stands above the rest of the privacy coins in market capitalization and overall adoption rates. As the pioneer in the field of blockchain privacy and with easy compliance routines on the blockchain, Coinbase should start considering the possibility of listing the coin. Monero Fees Down To Almost 0!
It just last week that we reported on the fact that the billion dollar crypto company known as Monero was to introduce a new technology known as ?bulletproofs? to their platform. Just a week later we?re happy to report that as a result of this new cryptography which was implemented on Thursday, Monero?s transaction fees have seen a drastic fall. According to new data published by BitInfoCharts, the average fee for Monero fell from around $0.54 to $0.021 cents as of a Saturday which is whopping 96% drop! Of course, this dramatic drop was in fact predicted by Monero devs: ?I think you can safely say a typical [transaction] fee goes down by more than 95 percent,? Monero core developer ?moneromooo? claimed last week. This item was found by us on October 26, 2018 10:29 AM. Browse coinbeat.com for more similar content.
Monero Thrives In The Crypto Market Following All Its Recent Developments
Monero (XMR) is currently occupying the tenth position in the crypto market, and it has been making headlines with its important development-related announcements. Its latest update, for instance, was aimed at improving its network. The token made its first sparks after a long time due to a bug which has been detected in the wallet by its developers. This could have given attackers the ability to burn funds of an organization which is on Monero?s ecosystem. More than that, this could have been carried out by attackers without even making additional payments apart from the transaction fees. But, the attacker would have gained some benefits from the attack indirectly. This posting was found by us on October 25, 2018 6:00 PM. Visit oracletimes.com for more.
